Dear Taijin,
I would see no reason why one could not change the color of the stone by heating it, similar to what the Maori people used to do with heat and moisture in New Zealand. However, to me, this would harm the intrinsic value of the stone by turning it more opaque and thus losing the rare translucency. I think it best for people to expand their consciousness about new types of nephrite and allow the creative arts to flow with the vast possibilities of this stone, rather than try to turn it into something it is not. There are plenty of opaque green nephrites out there from Khotan - Hetian to New Zealand and especially the wonderful Nephrites of Wyoming.

It's nice to read the informative article on the new nephrite deposit. The color is darker and will take time for market to accept it. Is it possible to enhance it by heating. I mean to reduce the darkness.

Wonderful article, my brother. From one who absolutely believes you are one of the finest sculptors living today, I loved your story and the feeling you so elequently portray. The piece itself has always been a favorite of mine, having had the chance to touch it personally at the Jade Art Now Show, and see how beautiful it looks from all angles, with the light playing upon its most sensous curves. To see a piece we all know so well on our web site will hopefully inspire more of our group to do a bit of picture-taking and story-telling of their own. There are many people out there in the Jade World who would love to see all these special creative works of new art, and hear, from the artists themselves, their personal feelings and inspirations that took them from rough stone to masterpieces of the mind and body.

This kind of thorough and exacting analysis of an authentic piece substantiated with superb photos is what informs, educates and raises awareness about jade in general and antiques specifically.
Very well done David, and although not everyone will comment, I am sure many really appreciate your hard work and insights to create not one, but a whole series of excellent examinations, the likes of which have never been done before.
Thank you,
RevG
